Review of Huda Beauty Faux Filter and Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r

Hi dolls, so I wanted to do a quick straight to the point review of Huda Beauty Faux Filter and Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r. Hopefully this review will help you decide which foundation is worth buying. I bought both foundations and these are my genuine thoughts and first impressions after trying out both foundations for 24 hours.

Just for info I’m shade NC42 in MAC and Shell Beige in Estee Lauder and my skin type is combinational.

What I like
OK let’s start with the packaging; Huda Beauty always slays when it comes to packaging. In my onion, her packaging is one of the best in the market it’s super glam. The bottle has a built-in pump which is great and easy to use.

Moving onto the foundation, I bought shade Toffee 420G, which is for tan skin tones. Sounds about right. The texture of the foundation is super thick and the coverage is full on, making it perfect for covering up spots, blemishes and imperfections.

Once applied Faux Filter holds up pretty well, it doesn’t fade and gives an airbrushed effect for up to 3 to 4 hours after application.

 

What I didn’t like
Once I applied a full face of Huda Beauty Faux Filter, it felt heavy on my skin. It’s definitely not a light weight foundation. And although Huda Beauty recommends mixing the Faux Filter with a moisturizer for a more medium coverage, I think that there’s better foundations on the market that give you a medium coverage without mixing them with a moisturizer.

Faux Filter dries to a matte powder finish, for me this made my face and bone structure look a bit flat. You would definitely need to use a highlighter and contour etc. to make your face pop. And because it dries to a powder finish, it looks like you’re wearing foundation and doesn’t really give a natural finish.

If you have dry skin, I think that a good hydrating primer is a must for anyone that wants to buy Faux Filter. I also think it’s a bit pricey for foundation compared to other foundations on the market. And after 3 to 4 hours of wear I found that my slightly oily t-zone started to seep through.

What I like
OK, so Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r packaging is super edgy, I love how the packaging is simple but funky. The bottle has a built-in pump which is super handy.

So, I was colour matched to shade 320 which is for tanned skin tones. The texture of Pro Filt’r is a lot more light weight and gives a medium coverage. However, the foundation is buildable and anyone looking for full coverage would need to build it up. Having said that, although it’s medium coverage for me it covered up my spots, blemishes and imperfections pretty well.

Pro Filt’r blends in beautifully and feels a lot more natural and light weight on skin. It has a soft matte finish which I love, because it doesn’t look too heavy or full on. It kind of feels like you’re not wearing any makeup, so perfect for that ‘no makeup look.’  I felt like this foundation accentuated my bone structure and made my cheeks pop without using a highlighter, it definitely gives a natural glow.

Once applied Pro Filt’r lasts around 3 to 4 hours, and didn’t fade or look dull throughout the day.

I think the price point is affordable and in line with other foundation brands in the market.

 

What I don’t Like
If you have VERY oily skin or get an oily t-zone throughout the day, you would have to use a good oil-control primer underneath. Again  I found my slightly oily t-zone started seeping through as the day went on. But I guess that’s because it’s a soft matte finish.

Verdict 
OK, so after trying both foundations, I’m swayed towards Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r. The reason why is because I prefer a more natural, light weight coverage. I really like the soft matte finish and feel like it suits my skin type more than the Huda Beauty Faux Filter. I also liked how the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r blended in better than the Huda Beauty Faux Filter. My skin definitely had more definition and a better glow with Fenty. And it didn’t feel heavy on my skin. Having said that, I think Huda Beauty Faux Filter looks amazing in pictures because of the full coverage.

 

The pictures below have been taken in natural lighting, and I haven’t used any contouring or highlighter.

The bottom line is, if you looking for an everyday foundation and don’t need or want full-on coverage, Fenty is the way forward. If you want or need full on coverage, then head to Huda Beauty.
